08 SEPT 2011

Richardson, TX – September 8, 2011 Presagis™, a leading provider of commercial-off-the shelf (COTS) modeling, simulation, and embedded graphics solutions, announced today that it is a member of the Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE™) Consortium, an Open Group managed consortium.

The FACE Consortium, founded in July 2010 by The Open Group, is working towards developing the standards for a common operating environment, allowing a more dynamic extension of capabilities across avionics platforms. The final open architecture and supporting standards created by the group will be adopted by government agencies for future avionics capability procurements.

The standards that are being developed will enable fast and easy upgrades to any part of the avionics systems- allowing a cost-effective solution.  As a part of the consortium and adhering to the standards, Presagis will empower its customers with FACE-compliant software tools.  The open design and interfaces, specified by FACE, will enable much greater reuse of software components on future programs, while facilitating future replacement of specific subsystems and components without impacting other parts of the system, as well as encourage third-party vendor participation.

“We are excited to be part of this team which is at the vanguard of modular open architecture avionics,” said Robert Kopersiewich, Vice President Embedded Graphics & Mission Critical Solutions at Presagis.  “The work that the FACE Consortium is undertaking is critical for creating modular and interoperable avionics systems across the armed forces; allowing our customers to create new mission capabilities in a much simpler, more cost effective way.”

As a member of FACE, Presagis will be working with the U.S. Navy Air Combat Electronics Program Office, the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Research and Engineering Center, and leading defense industry avionics suppliers, including Lockheed Martin, NAVAIR, Rockwell Collins, ATK, Boeing, CMC Electronics, Elbit Systems of America, General Dynamics, Northrop Grumman, as well as the U.S. Army AMRDEC, towards a common purpose to create a technologically appropriate, open FACE architecture, standards, and business model.  Together, Consortium members have specific goals to drive:

  • Standardized approaches & process models within avionics systems
  • Lower implementation costs of aircraft systems by leveraging the FACE standard
  • Standards that support a robust architecture and quality software
  • Defined interoperability within FACE systems and components
  • Portability of applications across multiple FACE systems and vendors
  • Procurement of FACE conformant products
