Solid Cast
The Solid Cast is more than a heat transfer model. Sophisticated algorithms actually simulate density changes and the movement of molten metal during solidification of the casting, taking into account gravity and dendritic crystal growth, in addition to the thermal calculations. The system is based on the Finite Difference Method (FDM), which has long been recognised as the most efficient method for simulation of casting solidification.
Opti Cast
Opti CastThe first of these is OPTICast, an automatic casting design optimization tool. OPTICast combines the SOLIDCast Casting Simulation package from Finite Solutions with the HyperOpt mathematical optimization system from Altair. Using SOLIDCast, the foundry engineer can import a three-dimensional model of a casting from CAD and analyze the shape for suggested size and location of riser and gating components.
Flow Cast
Flow CastThe second software product developed under this EMTEC project is FLOWCast, which models fluid flow during the filling stage of the casting process. While other flow models have been developed, most are extremely complex with long solution times, and are not practical for the typical foundry.
