EDST HR Speak

Q: What is your definition of emotional intelligence?

Ans: An ability to perceive, assess, and manage the emotions of one's self, of others, and of groups.

Q: How sensitive is your organisation to the emotions of the employees? Give concrete examples.

Ans: We are a result oriented, performance driven and a people organization. Our only and most important asset is our intellectual property, our human resource. We cannot afford to be insensitive to our employees. We encourage our employees to air their thoughts and ideas freely and without fear at all levels about anything which is in the best interest of the Organization. Most of our strategies and policies are arrived at in this manner. At a personal level, the Managers and HR work together in understanding the personal aspirations and issues of employees and try to address them as effectively as possible.

Q: Can employees be retained on the grounds of emotional bonding? How?

Ans: Yes. Suppressed emotions leads to frustration and ultimately forces one to break free.

Q: What does an organisation needs to do to create an emotional bond with the employee?

Ans: Promote a politics free, transparent and honest environment. Make employees feel that they are the owners of the business and their thoughts and ideas matter the most. Understand their personal & professional goals and work with them in fulfilling it.

Q: Does branding contribute to the creation of the emotional bridge? How? Explain with examples.

Ans: Yes. Branding goes a long a way in attracting prospective employees and customers. It is also equally important to maintain the brand value in the work culture, processes and deliverables to retain the employees and customers. When the employees or customers identify their values with the organization’s, an emotional bonding does take place.

Q: Emotional bonding with the employee leads to increased productivity and efficiency. How far is it true? Explain.

Ans: Yes. Emotional bonding creates a feeling of belongingness and when one sees everything as his own, he normally puts in the best he has.

Q: Are there any possible negatives of the emotional bond with the employee? If yes, explain.

Ans: Emotions if not addressed intelligently and effectively can turn out to be negative. Succumbing to emotional pressures is an example of dealing with emotions unwisely and ineffectively. We need to work on how emotions can be handled and used in a positive manner all the time. Emotional bonding is never about manipulating or taking undue advantage of the other person. Its about working together for a long lasting mutually fruitful association.
